We are Aspire Media Studios (A trading name of Aspire Media N.I. CIC) – our vision is to bring the ownership of media content back within the communities of Ballysally & Millburn – these are areas that have often suffered from negative external perceptions and poor inward attitudes over recent years.
The media has sometimes exacerbated this – for example, The BBC’s ‘The Estate’ series produced and shown on TV back in 2012 painted the whole of the Ballysally area in a very negative light and news broadcasts often focus on the problems and criminality with papers usually seeming to report mainly on the ‘bad-news’ stories instead of the good within the community!
This has caused some resentment amongst the local community, particularly as in the years following the BBC series the area has made great positive strides, but again little of this has been reflected in the local and national media streams.
In response to this, a committed group of local people, supported by Focus on Family, Ballysally & Millburn Community Association, have developed Aspire Media Studios – a digital media production facility based in Millburn open to all within the local community.
We have a dedicated team but are always looking for more people to come in and join our team – whether you like to be in front of the camera, become a local presenter, or prefer to work behind the scenes as a camera/sound operator, editor, content checker or digital uploader – collectively, we can start to develop content driven by the local community across Ballysally and Millburn as well as the wider Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council area, aiming to bring back local news within our local area.
The difference with Aspire Media Studios is that we will enable everyone to promote their local area – whether it is through direct project work with us (having our team come out and filming with you in the local area or you & your team coming to our facility in Millburn) or where everyone comes and works within our production team to develop skills to start a career in media production!
We are also interested in helping local charitable organisations as well as private sector organisations to develop your media resources and to assist in helping you grow and succeed!
If you are interested in joining the team, would like to work with us on a new project, or would like to find out more information about what we can do for you – please get in touch via our Facebook page (www.facebook.com/aspiremediastudios) or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org
